Embracing Emotion in the Workplace: Celebrating one of Tujijenge’s Heartbeats.

In the busy corridors of Tujijenge Tanzania Financial Services Ltd/LOLC and amidst the daily hustle and bustle, there exists a soul whose heart in my view beats in harmony with the very essence of this organization. In an age where vulnerability is often seen as a weakness, Mr. Meshack Kussaja stands tall, his emotions woven into the very fabric of our workplace culture. You will know him by his smile and warm embrace.

My late father, a man of wisdom and empathy, used to say, “Show me your friends, and I will tell you who you are,” (he loved that quote). The company we keep reflects to a great extent, our character and values. Moreover, Mr. Kapesi (Senior) emphasized the importance of responding to negativity with unexpected kindness, for we never truly know the battles others are fighting.

Last week was Meshack’s birthday, the office surprised him with cake, and everyone showed up. I could have sworn seeing a tear or two of happiness well up in his eyes. All the love he gives each day, came back in the form of upwards of 25 colleagues singing and dancing to him. Beautiful moment I tell ya.

You see, I joined this company 4months ago. Immediately Meshack was one of the 1st friends I made. He embodies these profound teachings I recall from my late father. Meshack is not only a respectful and kind human being, he exemplifies the kind of person my father admired but also someone I would have proudly introduced to him.

Meshack recently became a father himself, and I have no doubt that he will navigate this new role with the same grace, kindness, and understanding he displays in our workplace.

In the short time that I have known him, I have come to deeply respect and admire Meshack. his unwavering dedication to our organization and his compassionate leadership style have left an indelible mark on me. I am continually inspired by his ability to balance empathy with professionalism, creating an environment where everyone feels valued and understood.

As a senior head of department, Meshack commands respect not through authority alone, but through genuine compassion and an open heart. He listens, not just with his ears, but with his soul, understanding that each person’s story is unique and valuable. In a world where titles often overshadow empathy, he is a refreshing reminder of the power of genuine human connection.

Meshack’s willingness to celebrate others’ successes and share their burdens exemplifies the heart of a true leader. His approach, reminiscent of my father’s wisdom, has created a ripple effect within our workplace, inspiring others to be more understanding, compassionate, and open-hearted.

I observe everyday at Tujijenge, how the company values such individuals, those who not only contribute to the professional success but also nurture the emotional well-being of our workplace community. Meshack joined Tujijenge in 2011, and 12 years later he is still here, he is still smiling and happy. Tujijenge I have come to appreciate, is an organization where individuals are not just colleagues; we are a family, bound together by shared values, kindness, and respect.

In celebrating Meshack as one of the companies heartbeats, I honor & applaud his journey into fatherhood, his exemplary leadership, and his unwavering kindness. He reminds us that success is not merely a destination but a journey marked by the connections we forge and the lives we touch along the way.

May we all keep learning from Meshack’s example, embracing our emotions, nurturing our relationships, and fostering a workplace where empathy and understanding are not just encouraged but cherished.

Meshack, see you at office yoga right? As usual, bring that smile with you and light up our morning.
