Sermon: ‘…KEEP WATCH…’
Poem: by Sunday Ndunguru Kapesi
Title: “My Brothers’ Keeper. My Watchman I am.”

In the quiet embrace of our small English haven, where Sunday’s serenity unfolds, we heed the ancient wisdom echoing in yesterday’s scripture. “I am my brother’s keeper. I am my sister’s watchman. They indeed have my back.”

As sunlight filters through stained glass, we ponder the passage that urges vigilance, akin to watchmen awaiting an unknown lore. In this close-knit Christian enclave, the lesson deepens – to be good, patient, and ever watchful, for the devil’s hour remains a clandestine secret.

In the tapestry of “I am my brother’s keeper. I am my sister’s watchman. They indeed have my back,” we find the golden thread of Ubuntu philosophy: “I am because we are.” It’s a sacred dance of inspiration and learning, a cyclical journey where I return to share my light and gather the wisdom of fellow parishioners.

Our gatherings transcend generational bounds – young and old, we carve sacred moments, nurturing bonds that defy the constraints of time. In this communion, the words “I leave closer to my fellow parishioner” echo like a hymn, a testament to the profound connections forged within these walls.

As we stand shoulder to shoulder, a trinity of scriptures illuminates our shared path:

Galatians 6:2: “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ.” In the embrace of shared burdens, we discover the strength that unites us.

Amidst the pews, we stand united – a fellowship that stretches its arms wide, embracing all who seek refuge. Our community, a haven where differences dissolve, replaced by the common thread of acceptance. In the warmth of shared prayers, we embody the essence of being keepers and watchmen, standing guard over the collective spirit that unites us as one.

Proverbs 27:17: “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” In the gathering of minds and spirits, we refine and elevate each other.

In the sacred space of our community, these scriptures echo, binding us together in a harmony that transcends the temporal, where the collective spirit resonates with the divine.

Hebrews 10:24-25: “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another.” A call to perpetual encouragement and communal gathering, where the Lord’s spirit grows stronger among us.
