True Story: Real Recovery Journeys Inspiring Real Change

“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.”
Leonardo da Vinci
In rehab, I first heard the phrase K.I.S.S– “Keep It Simple & Sober,” while others jokingly translated it to mean, “Keep it Simple, Stupid.” It is a guiding principle in Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), reinforced by my sponsor and found in recovery readings.
Now, nearly three years post-rehab, working my recovery daily, I realize that simplicity isn’t just about staying sober—it’s about creating a life that supports sobriety. My addiction wasn’t just alcohol and substances; it was also emotional eating, anxiety-driven impulsive behaviors, and chaotic thinking. K.I.S.S reminds me to strip away the unnecessary distractions and complicating routines, thought processes, and just focus on what works, keeping my recovery fun, simple, practical, and taking things JUST ONE DAY AT A TIME.
